| This is an excellent updated and resvised version of South Africa's Cricket Captains: from Melville to Wessels (1994), co-author the late Jacke McGlew, a former South African captain and friend.
This updated version covers non-white as well as white aspects of cricket in South Africa and includes certain unknown aspects of the Basil D'Oliverira affair that led to the banning of Marylebone Cricket Club tour of South Africa in 1968/69 and eventually led to what became South Africa's 21 year long international isolation. Also included is a chapter on the rebel era that ended amid the political fluid situation South Africa found herself in the first weeks of 1990 when Nelson Mandela was unbanned along with the ANC. |
