Does a “Stake Through the Heart” only works in movies?
In the small college town of Denton, Texas, a student actor Danny McCoy and his beautiful lover Barbara, conspire to kill Danny's abusive mother, Edna, for a sizable inheritance.
Danny and Barbara are recruited by U of North Texas College Professor/Director Ben Allen to star in a new Offbeat/Quirky musical play. The play tells a story very close to the actor's real lives. Repeated unsuccessful attempts to kill Edna on and off stage, drive the young couple to more desperate measures. In one attempt, they accidentally dump the wrong woman into the North Sea during a Norwegian cruise ship vacation. Later, Danny tries smothering Edna with a pillow after an overdose of sleeping pills. But, she has built up a huge tolerance to drugs, alcohol and asphyxiation. They discover that Edna has become one of the undead, thanks to Capt. Vergon, a dapper Nordic vampire they met on the cruise ship. Danny and Barbara must find more effective ways to get their grubbing paws on the inheritance before Edna and Capt. Vergon spend it all. The stress is too much for Danny, so Barbara takes charge. Charmed by her ruthlessness Danny agrees to marry her. They celebrate the wedding on the North Texas State College Theater stage with the cast and audience. Here "Art Imitates the Living Dead.”
