| 1926-1942, there had been hundreds of Indonesian Independent fighters and their families—women and children—shipped by the Dutch Colony to Digul in Papua. In the unspoiled jungle of Tanah Merah, they were forcefully isolated and prisoned for years. Some of them died there. In 1942, as the 2nd world war broke, they were transported by the Dutch colony to a prisoner war of Camp in Cowra, the Lachlan Valley, New South Wales, Australia. Due to winter, some of them did not survive and died of malaria and some other disease.
“THE BUTTERFLY NEVER CRIES” reflects the war story through the childhood memories of a woman’s journey, between death and pains, friendship and love.
