I wrote the Introduction to this facsimile reprint of Robert Yates' book of this name. Yates was the leading Anti-Federalist who sought to defeat the Constitution at Philadelphia. Once it was ratified, however, he urged support for it in the future. The Introduction reviewed the history of the battle between the Federalists and Anti-Federalists concerning ratification of the Constitution. Contrary to popular belief, it was a very narrow victory for the Constitution.
