Dare to dream—incantation of an entrepreneur. Michael James Stapleton was born November 23, 1865 in Enniskillen, Southern Ontario, of Irish immigrants, near the oil town of Petrolia in the year of Canadian Confederation. Mike was a humble man, a man of his word, from a long line of Irishmen back to Tipperary. In 1896 Michael James promised Anna Elizabeth Anderson that he would send for her when he had established a place for a family in the West. Those pioneers were usually young, hardy individuals who struck out onto the open prairie and dared the gods to strike them dead. And sometimes they did. These were pioneer-entrepreneurs, icons of spirit and spirituality, and this is the story of the Lone Star Ranch and Stapleton family who were engaged in a life to death struggle with the weather, the gods and the government.
