| A book that chronicles the practice of sampling and endeavours to highlight some of the unsung heroes (mostly from the sixties and seventies) whose original creations have inspired modern hits.
Taking Notes is authored by vinyl junky Simon Licourinos, with a contribution from Acid Jazz founder Eddie Pillar, and is edited by Fyn Day. The foreword is by Bob Harris, one of music broadcasting’s brightest stars, a champion of new music and devotee of the old. Bob's goliath reputation is founded on a passionate obsession and an encyclopaedic knowledge… and he claims this book could have been written just for him.
Taking Notes, dedicated to John Peel, has high production values and is designed to have the appearance of a stack of 7" vinyls. It is 400 pages long and includes over 100 full plate photographs. The author's style is anecdotal and opinionated, which adds entertainment value to a very well informed text. A promotional CD is also planned.
