While on a business trip to Miami, Florida, Elizabeth Grzeszczyk was dining alone at an outdoor café when a man who introduced himself as Dr. Jonathan Palmer, the former British Formula One racecar driver, sat down at the table next to her and struck up a conversation. He quickly stole her heart and when he told her a few days later he wanted to change his business plans and stay in this country to be with her, she was thrilled. They traveled back to her home in Connecticut and her life became a whirlwind as she was swept up into his glamorous lifestyle; a Mercedes Benz was delivered to her doorstep for Dr. Palmer’s personal use and they flew to Florida to pick up a sports car he had shipped over from Italy. However, soon “Dr. Palmer” began spending a lot of time away from her in Manhattan on “business trips” and Elizabeth became disenchanted after a time and asked him to leave. She came home from work one day to find he had cleared out leaving her thousands of dollars in debt. When Elizabeth began checking numbers that he had called on her phone bills she discovered, this man was not Dr. Jonathan Palmer, but an internationally wanted con man known by the FBI, Interpol and Scotland Yard. Completely embarrassed and humiliated, Elizabeth’s life spiraled downward as she eventually loses her job, declares bankruptcy and loses her car to repossession. Determined not to let this man ruin her life, Elizabeth fights back and struggles to rebuild her life and she presses charges against the man who almost destroyed it. When she is transferred to work in Germany a few years later she has the chance of a lifetime to testify against the con man in a Paris courtroom.
