The first anthology of non-Malay literatures (i.e., writing originally written in English, Chinese, and Tamil) from Malaysia and Singapore. Malay writers were then normally published by the official governmental agency: the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in Kuala Lumpur, and the latter body, after agreeing to contribute a Malay section to the anthology in return for the literatures in other languages that it was willing to publish in Malay, refused to collaborate in the undertaking. The same reaction from the Ministry of Culture in Singapore.
The book subsequently got embroiled in litigation and was remaindered, even if pirated publications appeared in the United States under the imprints of Tri-Ocean Books and Folcroft Library Editions. |
