When we put pen to paper we express a need to understand and in turn be understood, to learn and therefore to teach. The bards of old sang ditties and ballads to pass on the skills and history of many generations. More of a vocation than a profession, it was both a responsibility and a privilege to record the truth, even if it was wrapped up in pretty words and jubilant song. The truth, which is at best a biased perception of the individual, is not always profitable or popular. Punk music may have been loud and brash, but the purpose behind true punk was pure enough. The same is true for the work of the bard and poet. If the music and prose are a statement of a generation, I wonder what future generations will make of what we had to say.
"Imago" in its original format did not look much like the e-book you see before you. It began its existence as handwritten notebook entries and images collected between 2002 and 2003. The name imago was chosen as a continuation from the name of the previous anthology ‘Chrysalis.’ Imago is the biological name for an adult butterfly (or other members of that family) once it has come out of the cocoon.
After a long period of quiet reflection, metamorphosis occurs; the resultant iridescent creature released is a beauty to behold. Imago.
