In 1968, Jake Shannon, a young Memphis Police Officer is recruited into a secret surveillance unit of the Police Intelligence Division. He is assigned to “Operation Sorespot”; a federal plan to keep tabs on suspected terrorist. He naively accepts the position and is thrust into a world of deceit and intrigue. The secret intelligence unit was disbanded after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King and Shannon's life is in an upheaval. Coop, a former government intelligence agent who is charged with the responsibility of “training” the police intelligence recruits, befriends Jake. As Jake’s world collapses around him, he buries himself in his work as an investigator for the District Attorney’s Office. His marriage dissolves and the only constant in his life is his relationship with Coop, who now does contract work for various government agencies. Twenty-five years after the assassination, Coop in his role as an Investigator for a Senate Sub-Committee, accidentally discovers documents relating to the King assassination that have been misfiled and buried in some government archives. Coop hides copies of the documents in a safety deposit box in New York City then is mysteriously mugged. Shannon brings him back to Memphis to recuperate at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Elena Morris, a psychiatrist working with the CIA, shows up unexpectedly at the Memphis VA and manages to take over supervision of Coop’s recovery. She attempts to thwart their efforts to unravel the truth by keeping Coop drugged and sedated but fails. She gives instructions not to let Jake visit him, but Jake sneaks him out of the VA hospital and hides him from the government. They compile a list of 25 unanswered questions about the assassination that the government had managed to keep from the public. Jake is subpoenaed to appear before a congressional sub-committee and must go to New York to retrieve the hidden documents before answering the subpoena. The documents are the only evidence to support his suppositions. Government agents are tipped to Jake’s plans and he must call upon every skill he has ever learned as a police officer and intelligence officer to beat them to the documents.

Who really killed Dr. Martin Luther King, and why? District Attorney Investigator Jake Shannon never completely believed the government’s version of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. Twenty-five years after the assassination, documents surface that support many of his suspicions. These documents are the only evidence to support his theories. Government agents are tipped to Jake’s plan to expose the newly discovered papers and he must call upon every skill he has ever learned as a police officer and intelligence officer to beat them to the files. READER REVIEWS: OPERATION SORESPOT---An exciting eye-opener Carla Tennessee (5/19/2002) This is a great book. It really gets you hooked from the very beginning. The book is fictional but based on fact, so I learned a lot about the events that lead up to the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in governmental corruption and conspiracy theories. An exciting eye-opener Carla Tennessee (5/19/2002) This is a great book. It really gets you hooked from the very beginning. The book is fictional but based on fact, so I learned a lot about the events that lead up to the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in governmental corruption and conspiracy theories. Operation Sorespot John Arizona (5/14/2002) After reading James Earl Ray's statements to the press from prison, and his continued assertions that he did not DO IT, I read this book from cover to cover in anticipation of trying to figure out at long last the answers to who was really involved. If you think the JFK assasination was covered up, wait until you read this book. Names were changed and a fictional thread was applied, but you WILL begin to understand how Dr. King's death was no random event. He was on path to destruction when he arrived in Memphis, just as JFK was in Dallas. Thanks Jim for the chance to see how this was done. Operation Sorespot Winston Tennessee (4/22/2002) This is a fictional account of a true event in history, but it is loaded with factual imformation. If you enjoy reading conspiracy theories you will love this book. The questions raised in the book are quite interesting. It is a real page-turner. Operation Sorespot Ken Tennessee (4/22/2002) This is one of the most exciting books I have read in a long time. It is filled with lots of mystery and intrigue. The conspiracy theories presented in this book were so fascinating I couldn't put the book down. I know it is listed as fiction, but I read things in this book that I remember seeing on TV and reading in the newspaper. I couldn't separate the facts from the fiction. It is a must read for all conspiracy buffs!! Operation Sorespot Jerry Tennessee/USA (2/20/2002) Riveting, exciting, and it answers a lot of question about the conspiracy.
