| My mother suffered a stroke during a routine medical test. Although it was thought that the stroke was slight, the original diagnosis was wrong; it was massive. I was frustrated in my search for answers about her prognosis. Books about her condition were nonexistant. Slowly, my knowledge about patient's rights, living wills, and what to do when a patient's medical insurance and money run out began to grow. I decided to write my own book for other baby boomers like myself. As this huge bulk of the population ages, they are faced with the difficult task of caring for their elderly parents. Long term health care has an exhorbitant price tag, both financially and emotionally.
This is also the personal story of my brother and I. We found that the more our mother needed us; the more we needed each other.
