Rudolf Okonkwo is a syndicated columnist. He writes about Nigerian politics and other weird happenings.
Okonkwo is from Nnobi in Anambra State. He has a Bachelor of Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State. He began his career as a Reporter for Classique Magazine under May Ellen Ezikel. He later did freelance work for Punch and Guardian newspapers before he moved to the Daily Mail of Lagos where he became the Energy Correspondent. In the Daily Mail, he rose rapidly to become the Youngest Editorial Board member of a National Newspaper. In March of 1993, he was fired from the Daily Mail over an article he wrote that embarrassed the then military government of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.
In June of 1993, Okonkwo moved to the United Kingdom where he became a correspondent of THE JOURNAL OF NIGERIAN AFFAIRS. He used the medium to join in the fight against military rule and human rights abuses in Nigeria. In 1994, he visited the United States to cover the Super Eagles at the USA'94 World Cup Soccer.
Okonkwo returned to the United States in 1995 and has been living there ever since. He is a contributing editor for various journals including the New York based Nigeria & Africa, Igbo Voice, Black Business Journal amongst others.
He writes poetry and short-stories, loves comedy and music. His yet to be published works include THE DIARY OF A WASTED POET, SONGS OF A ROADSIDE POET, THE SECRET DIARY OF GEN. SANI ABACHA & OTHER CRITICS CHOICE, INTIMATE VERSES, BEHIND THE SHOWER CURTAINS, ... SPEAKING OF CASUALTIES, IN PLACE OF TEARS, THE KID FROM LABYRINTH, CHILDREN OF A RETIRED GOD and DEATH ON MOUNT TRASHMORE.
Okonkwo's column appears in tens of journals including THISDAY, CHAMPION, NIGERIAN NEWS, USAFRICAVOICE etc. etc.
He is currently studying psychology with special emphasis on Developmental Disabilities. He lives in Lynn, Massachusetts.
