My name is Julie Soogrim

I attend Writers Union where meeting are held at the Port of Spain library every last
two Saturdays of each month.

I have been reading through some of the profiles on this website and I have seen
that a lot of you like writing poetry. There is a money grant you can get from the
Ministry of Arts and Multicultural to help you self/publish your books right here
through one of the local publishers.

I developed a love for reading fairy tales as a child growing up with the usual
Cinderella stories. My parents bought me a whole collection of these types of
books which I still have some well kept up to this day.

As a teenager I began reading the famous Mills and Boons romance novels and
then around eighteen I began writing my first children stories. It was inspired by a
dream I had, that is how I came up with the idea of this book and I think it will
represent our country to the world well once it is published. This book has a lot of
magical creatures like the mermaids, dragons and there are three kingdoms. In the
kingdom of Damon an evil king called Damien rules. This story begins where a
young girl had been swept away by a strange sea current while swimming in the
Quinam Beach. She comes out in another planet where the adventure begins. I will
put up the first chapter of this book for the public to view.

I also wrote and published 3000 copies of a Christian newspaper call The Shepherd
in August 2008 but since sales were slow I didn't bother reprinting anymore.
