For the past few years, I have yearned to write a fiction romance. I developed a story outline in 2007, creating detailed character profiles for two women, both widowed, who are rebuilding their lives. The men who have entered their lives are a father and son who have been estranged for years and are building a new relationship.

As many novel writing books recommend (I bought several), I developed a detailed story line. However, after just a couple of chapters, the characters took over and started telling me their story. I add the details of place and senses but they own the dialogue and the story development. Just wish they'd stop waking me at 4 a.m. to tell they forgot to say something!

I'm still under part-time contract to write two newsletters (weekly, monthly) but will stop once the book manuscript finds a home with an agent. In the meantime, I work on the manuscript every day. The first complete draft will be finished in the next two weeks or so (it's at Chapter 18 now) and then I will spend a couple of months polishing and polishing. It's become a true labor of love.
