G. M. Javed Arif

Khulna, Bangladesh

Born in 1971 in Khulna, Bangladesh, G. M. Javed Arif has received his education from Rotary School, Khulna, Govt. B.L. College, Khulna and Rajshahi University, Rajshahi. He attended English Studies in Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University for brief periods before he went on to Rajshahi University to complete his B A (Honours)and Masters in English.

G. M. Javed Arif has been teaching in Khulna University, Bangladesh since 1997, and served the University in different positions. From 2002 to 2004, and from 2008 to 2010, he served as the Head of English Discipline in Khulna University. Presently he is an Associate Professor and is the Dean of Arts and Humanities School of the University.

Besides administrative roles in Khulna University, he has been writing in both Bengali and English for many years. Not much interested in publishing, G. M. Javed Arif has a little number of published works. He has written sonnets in Bengali, and short stories in both Bengali and English. His English poems are well over fifty in number, and his translations from both Bengali and English are quite a few. His translations include famous short story writers in English and poets like Sylvia Plath and mystics like Fakir Lalon Shah.

Creative Writing is a discipline that Arif finds very interested in. He is well-versed in critical and cultural theories as well as poetry of different ages and nationalities.

G. M. Javed Arif intends to publish some of his works when he finds time.
