Diane Paul

Manchester, United Kingdom

Home page:

My springboard into writing began in TV journalism; then a move to Paris sparked off an interest in public relations -I was working on the 'Unesco Courier' and publicising Unesco's trips for international civil servants to developing countries where I was also a group courier. After passing my IPR exams in London, I returned to the UK and worked in PR consultancies, specialising in fashion, household textiles and not forgetting Interflora. I did a business course at Manchester Business School and opened my own consultancy, Keyword Communications for consumer PR and training but eventually my love for writing drew me back into journalism. I was senior reporter on Eddie Shah's Bury and Stockport Messengers and Group Woman's Page Editor for them and The Advertiser Series. I edited a theatre page and 'Call Boy', a show business magazine, freelanced for national papers and magazines and have contributed to the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times, The Guardian, The Stage. A commission from Bloomsbury Publishing resulted in 'Living Left-handed' and a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation helped with research for 'The Left-hander's Handbook' published by the Robinswood Press. It won two book awards from the British Medical Association. In 2008, Need2Know Books published ADHD:The Essential Guide. I launched Dextral Books, my own special needs publishing company, obtained an MA in scriptwriting from the University of Salford and, after 12 years became a writer in education, tutoring on writing workshops in schools and for various correspondence courses, including the Open College of the Arts. I run editorial consultancy, Keyword Editorial, writing, editing and appraising writers' manuscripts and I write a successful book blog:
I am a member of the Society of Authors.
