Doug M. Brooks is an African American poet, playwright and novelist out of Huntington, WV. Graduate of Huntington high school and Huntington Junior college, with his associateís degree in Business management, he began building his writing portfolio with poems, short stories and skits for his hometown church Real Life Christian Center.
He attended Marshall University majoring in English/writing and later founded a sole proprietorship entitled Chapterís Advertising. Chapterís Advertisingís mission statement: We create and utilize the power of story telling to promote positive thinking and purchasing power of positive innovative products and services. Chapterís is the premier sponsor of the annual God is a Writer writerís conference held at the Pullman Plaza Hotel in Huntington, WV November 2008 and looks to canvas the nation with innovative marketing concepts.
Doug published his first novella, Wake up CallóBefore the Roosterís Wake in November 2004 through Xlibris a subsidiary of Random House publishing and since has authored volumes poetry, a second novel and several plays. Plays consist of Intelligent Hoodlum a one-act drama about domestic abuse redemptive struggle of a man ex-communicated from his sanctuary. Soul mates a two act tale of two couples search for love, success and faith. Tear struck a one act drama about a young manís struggle to juggle his career and support his daughter whom later has to cope with the loss of her estranged mother.
Theatrical experience also includes associate producing and acting in Norman Branchís one act play entitled In the Midst of It All, produced in the historical Keith Albee Theater in Huntington and the Ashland, KY paramount theater. Recently, adding a screenplay to his repertoire, Dougís plans of a film debut is currently in the works.
Interests: Writing, train and car travel, theatre, after dinner drinks, jacuzzi's, boxing, football, spoken word, dancing, weight lifting and reading.
