Jim Dittoe, President and Founder, Winning Communities, has more than 30 years of experience in the field of community development and economic development, having been the chief executive officer in chambers of commerce and economic development councils in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. He has led boards, community leadership and staff in the development of mission, goals, and objectives for dynamic, action-oriented organizations. Jim has been involved with the successful accomplishments of the building of highways, airports, revitalized downtowns, education foundations and other value-added projects. Through his economic and community development work, local economies have gained thousands of jobs and millions of dollars of capital.
Jim has held numerous leadership positions for both civic and community organizations. He was a past board member and president of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Executives Association and past executive committee member and treasurer of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Association. Jim has taught community analysis at the Institute for Organization Management at Notre Dame University, the University of Georgia, and the University of Delaware. He was also was an active member of both the Indiana and Ohio Economic Development Councils.
In 1994, Jim established Winning Communities, Inc. to help communities and organizations envision the future and to develop goals and action plans for achievement. As a community coach, Jim is the primary facilitator of the Certified Winning Community™ vision and action planning process, a program endorsed by the Community Bankers Association of Illinois, the Indiana Bankers Association and the Association of Indiana Counties. He works closely with community leaders and citizens to emphasize success and achievement.
Jim’s new book, 90 Days to a Winning Community, provides an inspirational and practical how-to guide to action planning for community leaders. The book explains the ideas behind the Certified Winning Community program, highlighting several community success stories, and outlines steps communities can follow to become Winning Communities, with sample timelines, agendas, worksheets and progress reports that other Winning Communities used during their transformations.
Jim facilitates community and economic development by bringing interested citizens and stakeholders together and developing positive and productive communication channels. He has been involved in numerous economic development studies, including the I-69 Environmental Impact Statement project, conducted on behalf of the Indiana Department of Transportation. He has also been an honored speaker at many community events and planning retreats for organizations and chambers of commerce.
Jim, and his wife Jan, a professional dental hygienist, reside in Carmel, Indiana where they spend time with their three adult children and eight grandchildren.
