His first book, Mom's Marijuana: Life, Love and Beating the Odds, has been translated into Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and Portuguese. His second book, about his treatment of a physician who made a mistake, is entitled Delivering Doctor Amelia and will appear in bookstores in July 22, 2003. A humorist who also uses drama, he speaks widely to lay and professional groups.
Dan Shapiro did his undergraduate work at Vassar College. He received his Ph.D at the University of Florida and went on to Harvard Medical School where he completed an internship at McLean Hospital and an endowed fellowship in medical crisis counseling at Boston Children's Hospital, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and the Brigham and Women's Hospital.
His personal essays have appeared in JAMA, Salon.Com, the American Psychological Association's Monitor and he has had a few commentaries on National Public Radio's: All Things Considered.
