Hello:
I'm Vanessa, a "twenty-something" who's been writing for the past twelve years, which makes me a young but experienced writer. I write mainly fiction, (short stories, novels, poetry) but I also write essays, blogs and a variety of articles. Though I like to think of myself as a well-rounded writer, fiction will always be my passion--for lack of a better word. Several of my short stories were published in online publications.
I have completed two novels, which are looking for a home. "All the Right Reasons" is a contemporary/mainstream novel about a Brooklyn-based wedding planner, Stella, who has issues with monogamy. When her long-term boyfriend proposes to her, Stella secretly spends the next months trying to resolve her issues. The novel incorporates elements of romance, "chick lit" and psychological drama, which gives it a unique edge.
On the other hand, "A Letter From Here" is a contemporary novel about a young woman, Heather, who longs to make peace with herself and her free-spirited young mother. The course of her young adulthood is spent trying to break free from her toxic relationship with her mother, who only lives for her daughter. Poignant and haunting, "A Letter From Here" is the story of a woman's quest for balance and serenity.
You can also check out my short stories "Long Drive Home" "Getting Out of Bed" and "No Better Place" in the following online publications: KeepGoing, Hackwriters and ProseToad, respectively.
Finally, my favorite genres are (mainstream, contemporary, "dark fiction," chick lit, urban fiction, contemporary romances, memoirs, literary, travel writing) Some of my favorite books are: Back Roads, White Oleander, She's Come Undone, the Cider House Rules, Leaving Las Vegas, Requiem for a Dream, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Always the Bridesmaid, Can You Keep a Secret? Lullabies for Little Criminals, Babyville and tons more.
I hold a degree in creative writing and sociology. I live in Montreal, but hope to relocate to New York in the future. I'm currently completing my third novel. Though I joined this site to interact with other writers, I am seeking a literary agent. Though publishing is a business, my goal is to find a literary agent with whom I can establish a long-term professional relationship with. Team-work is necessary for a writing career in the publishing industry.
Agents, publishers, writers, please feel free to contact me! Interests: writing, reading, travelling, music, film, art and sociology
