Karen Jean Matsko Hood was born and raised in Great Falls, Montana. After graduating from high school, she went on to complete her bachelor’s degree in natural science with minors in both secondary education and psychology at the College of St. Benedict St. John’s University in Minnesota. Upon graduating in 1975 she taught science and math in the U.S. Virgin Islands on the Island of St. Croix. Hood returned to the United States to attend post-graduate classes at the University of Iowa, Iowa City from 1976-1980. She also taught math to disabled students at University Hospital School while in Iowa City, Iowa. Karen’s travels eventually brought her to Spokane, Washington in 1980 where she became involved in marketing and freelance writing for various businesses. She went on to complete a business Master’s degree from Gonzaga University in May, 2001.
Hood is also a certified teacher by the state of Washington to teach grades 4 – 12 in the areas of anthropology, psychology, sociology and biology. She is a passionate advocate for children’s rights and serves as a foster care advocate for children. Hood will continue to help improve the quality of education and literacy on an international level. She enjoys writing books for both children and adults. She is currently working to complete both fiction and non-fiction books. She is currently working to complete both fiction and non-fiction books as well as magazine articles and poetry.
Currently the author is living in Greenacres, Washington with her husband of 25 years, their nine children, and their foster children. She is devoting her spare time writing freelance articles and working on various books for publication. Karen is also working to further her education by taking postgraduate classes to complete her Ph.D. degree at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
