Richard Kent Smith has been a teacher, counsellor, and classical radio announcer. He spent thirteen years in the institutions described in his book, DELLA'S CHILDREN, which exposes the fraud and abuses he has seen in the secret world of private treatment schools. Having made the escape described in the story, he went on to obtain degrees in Fine Arts, Journalism, and Secondary Education. He has worked with parents, students, and professionals to expose the crime and violence in unregulated private institutions.
