Rina Angela Corpus
I graduated with a BA in Art Studies and MA in Art History at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. Was former culture staffwriter (1993-96) and culture editor (1997-98)of the weekly UP student paper Philippine Collegian. Trained and danced classical ballet with the Quezon City Ballet, and took dance classes with Ballet Manila, Swiss Chamber Ballet International, Perry Sevidal Ballet, and Limon Dance Institute of New York. Danced and co-directed the "Four Faces of Woman: A Dance-Exhibit" in 2006 under the auspices of the National Commission for Culture and Arts and in collaboration with the Brahma Kumaris-Women of Spirit Network. Currently specializing in dance studies. Presently a contributing writer for Women's Feature Service. My MA thesis on Filipina independent dancers, "Defiant Daughters Dancing" is published by the UP Press in 2007. Several of my dance and art reviews have been published in academic and art journals, like Transit, Bulawan, Philippine Humanities Review, and Diliman Review. My fiction has seen print in the Philippines Free Press.
I also teach arts and humanities in my home department of Art Studies, UP Diliman. Since 2006, I have been a volunteer and resident meditation teacher at the Center for Spiritual Learning (CSL) of the Brahma Kumaris in Tagaytay City. I edit and write for The Point, the CSL's monthly e-newsletter. Spirituality and women's work have been an inspiration for most of my recent writing and dancing.
