I've been making my living as a writer since 1981, until recently mostly in the screen and TV trade. I've written for the movies extensively (solo screen credit for Beer, a Robert Chartoff Production for Orion) and was one of the first writers on "Miami Vice." I also was on staff for Michael Mann's next TV effort, "Crime Story." I've done numerous uncredited rewrites and assignments, most of which mow reside in Development Hell.
In 1986 Random House published my comic novel "Cosmic Banditos," which has since become a cult phenom ("Outgonzos Hunter S. Thompson!" said UPI), with copies of the original Vintage trade paperback going for as much as $350 at rare book stores and auction. Cosmic Banditos will go back into print this spring (Penguin Putnam) in conjunction with my memoir, In Search of Captain Zero.
As a writer and/or photojournalist I've done magazine work for Men's Journal (including covers and back page "Being There"s), Smithsonian magazine, Popular Photography, American Photo, The Surfer's Journal, surfing, and many others.
I've created a website as an adjunct to my memoir; a venue for the photographs I took while living the life depicted in the book. The URL is www.aweisbecker.com. It's worth a look. My goal is to establish my site as a sort of personal e-zine. We'll see.
