Denise Landry
montreal, Quebec, Canada Email: swheeler@videotron.ca Hello, I’m Denise Landry. I have Cerebral Palsy. I use a wheelchair and a voice synthesizer to speak.
Not being able to speak forced me to find other ways to express my thoughts and ideas. The written word was the best way. By putting words on paper, I could say and create anything that I thought of. Here’s when my love of writing started.
I wrote short stories and essays during my school years. In junior college, disability issues became important to me and decided to focus my writing on these issues. I wrote disability poetry. I also took a children’s lit. class and wrote a fairy tale, “The Silent Princess”. Everyone loved disability theme tale so I wrote more. The tales teaches kids about the positive side of disabilities. To make my writing skills stronger, I took courses by mail from the Institute of Children’s Literature. I wrote kids and adult stories with them.
Since then, I have given disability speeches at local schools with my voice synthesizer, and wrote and starred in my own short play. I sent my writing to magazines. Rejection every time. Good writing but my style doesn’t meet their formats. I keep trying. I set up this portfolio to maybe find some freelance, work at home writing jobs. I can e-mail/mail my work to people. It would be too hard for me to go out to do jobs. I do stories, poetry, simple speech and plays. If you or a friend are interested in my writing, be free to e-mail me. thanks.
