Betty Champagne Guthrie
Athens, Alabama, United States
Betty Champagne received her introduction to computers while working for General Electric Information Services in San Antonio, TX. Since then, she says, she has metamorphosed from a "white-knuckle computer user afraid of every key on the keyboard" to the author of the popular computer Q & A self-help column, “Bits & PCs.”
Along the way, Ms. Champagne spent more than 10 years as a technical writer specializing in computer user manuals, and five years as a computer instructor, conducting computer training classes for the employees of large companies. She has written computer instruction manuals for such diverse companies as software manufacturers Washington, DC, a gas pipeline company in Houston, and a dot-com company in Boston, and has authored numerous articles for such computer magazines as Smart Computing.
Ms. Champagne is a native of Louisiana, and a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University. She is a member of the National Writers Union, and as a former senior member of the Society for Technical Communication, was a featured speaker at the International Technical Communicator's Conference in New York City in 1991. She is listed in Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and The International Dictionary of Biographies.
Ms. Champagne lives with her husband, two dogs, and five cats in rural Alabama, where she works from her home office. She is working on her first novel.
