Alex Vrenios is the Founder and Director of Research at the Distributed Systems Research Lab. He holds a BS, MS, and PhD in Computer Science, is the author of a book on Linux clustering, and numerous technical articles. He is Red Hat Linux Certified, and a Senior Member of the IEEE and its Computer Society. Dr. Vrenios began his career working with communications and data transmission protocol software on IBM mainframe computers, and later transitioned into networked IBM AIX and SunOS/Solaris environments. He learned about Linux, inter-process communications, distributed algorithms and cluster computing, which continue to influence his research interests. He teaches Math and Computer courses at a local community college and lives with his lovely wife Diane, three Miniature Schnauzers, and a few dozen African Cichlids and their pet cats (Synodontis species). He writes fiction for pleasure, and in the grand hope of influencing young people to consider a career in science or technology.
