For the last ten years, I've worked as a professional writer, editor, and teacher. As an adjunct professor of writing and literature, I taught at Boston College, University of New Hampshire, Endicott College, Montserrat College of Art, and Columbia College Chicago. I designed and taught an online creative writing workshop for the Union Institute and University in Vermont. Additionally, I taught an evening writing workshop in Newburyport, Massachusetts and a journaling workshop for teen girls.

My work has appeared in The Gettysburg Review, PortFolio Magazine, Permafrost, The Larcom Review, The ELL Outlook, Chicago Arts and Communication, and Hair Trigger. Currently, I am a contributing writer to Writers on the Rise (named one of the “Best 101 Web Sites for Writers in 2005” by Writer’s Digest magazine).

I have an undergraduate degree from Indiana University (English and journalism) and a graduate degree from Columbia College Chicago (writing). I'm a veteran of the Bread Loaf Writers Conference.

On April 1, 2006, I moved to Shanghai, China. Since arriving in Shanghai, I’ve been documenting my adventures on a new website/blog called “Shanghai Adventures of a Trailing Spouse." Visit
