Agent: millenium award
hove, United Kingdom

won millenium award to have book published about caring for someone with alzheimer's - something i did for my poor old mum who died three years ago. i have no family or other support - i adored her & it was an almost impossible situation to work to earn my living as an english teacher & look after my mother - who in the end could eat, drink, toilet herself. i wrote the bk to help others in a similar situation. the first 500 i gave away in return for voluntary contributions to the alzheimer's society then people asked me if they could buy the bk. i had more printed myself and started to sell them. at first it was a bit slow to sell but somehow the guardian newspaper read a copy & asked me to write a 1&half k words article about the ageing population - they only gave me 2hrs to write it... because the guardian goes to 1&half million readers - a lot of people bought my book. as a result i've now been on t.v. on radio programmes & written for other newspapers - last one for the yorkshire times, and magazines. i've also become an agony aunt to the hundreds of letters i receive from people caring for their loved ones... a truly humbling experience. this book was my first - & at 61 guess i'm a late starter... but it shows there is hope....
