CJ Scarlet is a nationally recognized expert on victim’s issues and transforming life’s obstacles into opportunities for growth and lasting happiness. With over 16 years as an advocate for individuals facing tragedy and trauma, and a Humanities Master’s Degree with an emphasis in Human Violence, CJ has a solid understanding of the myriad physical and emotional challenges people face and how they habitually (and often ineffectually) respond to them. Her work became very personal in 2002 when her long-term autoimmune condition was pronounced terminal. Using her vast experience helping others and her own inner resources, CJ was able to transform her attitude from one of fear and suffering to one of total peace and joy. To her surprise and delight, her emotional transformation dramatically improved her physical condition, and the progress of her illness has stopped and most of her symptoms have disappeared. CJ is currently working as a Certified (pending) Personal Coach, helping others achieve the happiness they crave by teaching them the simple lessons found in her book to help them shift their perspectives and find solutions. CJ Scarlet is an award-winning photojournalist and editor with 25 years of marketing, public relations and professional writing experience, including hundreds of news and feature articles, as well as multi-million dollar grants and business proposals. She edited and co-authored a comprehensive, multidisciplinary Child Sexual Abuse Guidelines manual for criminal justice and social service agencies. As Director of Victim Issues for the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office, CJ initiated and co-chaired the nation’s first Statewide Automated Notification System, which saves lives by ensuring victims are automatically notified when their perpetrators are released from custody. This program was selected as the national model by the U.S. Department of Justice and was nominated for numerous national awards. It received an Honorable Mention for Outstanding xxxxxxxx from the National Association of Public Administrators. Over the years CJ has appeared on numerous radio and television programs, and was a media spokesperson while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. She has given speeches and workshops at state, national and international events, including a keynote speech before 500 people in honor of local law enforcement officers. CJ has served on a number of boards and commissions, including the National Victims Constitutional Amendment Network and the N.C. Governor’s Advisory Commission on Military Affairs. She was chosen as Honor Graduate of her platoon in bootcamp and was named Outstanding Young Careerist by the Business & Professional Women’s Club in her region. The USMC Combat Correspondent’s Association and the Thomas Jefferson Awards Program have honored CJ for her writing and editorial skills. CJ is a member of the National Speakers Association and the International Coaching Federation. She resides with her husband near Raleigh, N.C.
