After reading Stonecypher Road, best-selling author, Clive Cussler, said this about the Longwells: “Anybody who likes wild drives with fast cars through the Rockies and who adorns mystery and intrigue with ancient glyphs can’t be all bad.” As for the book itself, Clive Cussler said, “I truly enjoyed it.”
Nancy and Warren Longwell have spent their lifetime together searching for new ways to expand their limits. They have paddled their own canoe down Africa’s crocodile-infested Zambezi River, and climbed towering ice walls in British Columbia and Alaska. In the course of four global circumnavigations, they’ve sailed for months at a time on working freighter ships, and once crewed on an America’s Cup yacht. Travel, they decided, would be their higher education, and so they spent semesters trekking to holy shrines at Machu Picchu and Rangoon and along China’s Great Wall. Warren has raced on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, and Nancy has run the New York Marathon, and together they have gone underwater through a subterranean river in Mexico’s Yucatan. Deep off the coast of Vanuatu they tried their hand at underwater archeology on the submerged hulk of a steel warship, and in the high mountains of Papua New Guinea they once acquired a museum-quality artifact. They’ve “flown” in a shuttle simulator at NASA’s Houston space facility, and crossed five continents by rail.
These and other adventures gave them material for numerous published magazine articles before they finally realized their dream of publishing a novel. The publication of Stonecypher Road in 2005 marked their stunning and literate debut.
