I am a young aspiring writer just starting out in Dubai, I have been doing some freelance work for publications out here and have also had articles published in Bahrain. I have just graduated from uni, with a masters degree in English literature and am now staying in Dubai interning for an international news company. Although writing is undoubtedly my first passion, ultimately I aim to start my own publishing company out here, specialising in children's literature and publishing local homegrown talents as well as international literature for educational curriculae. Although I plan to be based in the UAE, I dream of creating an international publishing house; having grown up in the Middle East, I am well aware how rich a breeding ground it is for the imagination, particulary a childlike one! There is so much history, heritage and culture out here to provide plots and backgrounds for stories and poetry that could be, and should be enjoyed by children around the world.
As I mentioned, I am still young myself, and this dream is a long way off at the moment, but I would love to hear some feedback from writers and publishers online- is this a good idea? Could it work? Or am I only dreaming? Well, dreaming is what I do best, I am a writer, after all. :-)
