Author and Inspirational Speaker
Stanice Anderson is a former Editorial Assistant for USAToday.com and author of two nonfiction books: I SAY A PRAYER FOR ME: One Woman's Life of Faith and Triumph (Walk Worthy Press/Warner Books, November 19, 2002) and 12-STEP PROGRAMS: A Resource Guide for Helping Professionals (Learning Publications Inc., 1999).
In I SAY A PRAYER FOR ME, she shares lessons of God’s faithfulness as she recounts her journey through addiction, tragedy, and pain to eventually emerge whole. Offering reflections on her past and the prayers that carried her through her darkest hours, Stanice delivers a message of inspiration and hope as a living example of God’s healing and restorative power.
Promoting her work through the Internet, Stanice developed an international readership by writing email series of inspirational life-stories, “Food for the Spirit” and “Power Moments with God,” as well as an online column, “Sharing the Hope.” These also led to her discovery by a literary agent and publisher. Her web site, www.stanice.com registered over 100,000 page views, to date.
As a speaker, Stanice’s enthusiasm, sincerity, and sense of humor inspires audiences across the country at retreats, churches, conferences, 12-step programs, community organizations, addictions treatment centers, prisons, and graduations. She also serves as a mentor to women recovering from addictions and abusive relationships.
She reached even greater audiences as a guest on cable-TV programs, through several appearances on the 700 Club—including a dramatization of her story. Her work has been spotlighted in Essence and The New Social Worker magazines.
Stanice is a member of Christ's Spiritual Temple Baptist Church, Baltimore, Maryland; Highways & Hedges Ministries, Durham, North Carolina; Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance, Falls Church, Virginia; and Black Americans in Publishing, Inc., New York City, New York.
Anderson is organizing 12-STEPPERS FOR JESUS, a Christian faith-based 12-step program that launches in November 2002. She is also designing I SAY A PRAYER FOR ME: The Workshop planned to launch in 2003. Other works-in-progress include collaboratively writing a four-women play.
Stanice is the 4th generation of Andersons born in Washington, D.C. However, she also has lived in Summit, New Jersey; Chapel Hill and Durham, North Carolina. She and her son, Mike Tucker, also a writer, now live in Maryland.
