Phyllis Jean Green’s poetry, fiction and nonfiction have appeared in more than 200 publications. Recent examples: Skyline, Poetry in the Arts [HM], Mooncrossings, Shadow Poetry [2nd Prize], The Eintouist, The Pedestal Magazine, L’Intrigue, Sensations Magazine, The Moonwort Review, Survivor Wit, and PoetryRepairShop. Green’s stylistically and thematically wide-ranging work began gaining acceptance in l986, and has appeared in print publications such as Snow Monkey, Buffalo Spree, Sulphur River Literary Review, Visions, Atom Mind, Lost Creek Review, Timbuktu, Bitterroot, Psychopoetoca. and Black Ice, etc. The biography she wrote [Spinning Straw: the Jeff Apple Story, Diverse City Press, Quebec, Canada, l999] consistently receives favorable reviews. Poet Peter Tomassi chose Green to edit and introduce his 2000 collection, Mixing Cement [Thunder Rain, LA]. From 1998-2002, she was Associate Editor of L’Intrigue. Her award-winning long poems about NY’s Coney Island have been performed all across the U.S. American Literary Magazine dubbed the issue in which they appeared first-of-category. Green’s other awards include feature poet status at a centennial event held at Secaucus Public Library [NJ], and top honors at Poetic Liberty.. In 2001, Ward Kelly’s [now defunct] Ze Book Company published her poetry collection, Straw-Hat Theater. R.C. Rutherford of The Moonwort Review called Green’s contribution “magnificent.” She has been invited to read with John Amen, author of Christening the Dancer. The Illinois native and her husband live in “serene surroundings with our beloved books and two rapscallions who claim to be Yorkshire terriers” near Chapel Hill, NC.
