My writing career makes for an interesting resume. Formerly a travel editor for a national country inn magazine, I've also worked for a world-class reference book publisher and freelanced for several magazines and newspapers.
After my only child was born, I began writing personal essays for magazines and newspapers. Writing "what I knew," I found my niche in the personal essay genre, and soon landed a weekly personal column in several newspapers -- one regional and two local. It's probably a little odd that I enjoyed travel writing, yet somehow ended up being a homebody and loving it. My dual career as a stay-at-home writer and parent is best captured in my newest essay collection, "Writing Home."
One of my favorite quotes is from Harriet Beecher Stowe:
"To be really great in the little things, to be truly noble and heroic in the insipid details of everyday life, is a virtue so rare as to be worthy of canonization."
Interests: Personal essays and memoirs. Edgy, personal, poetic writing that speaks to the heart and soul without waxing sentimental.
