Born together with the English Language as 2nd official language in Malta, 1943. Read English at the Universities of Malta, Cambridge (Girton) and Heidelberg before being appointed the first full-time woman Lecturer in English at the University of Malta in 1971. Was condemned to gruelling drudgery after marriage in 1972, when bombarded by 3 children (1974/6/7) and various ailments, including manic-depression (more colourful than bi-polar).
Have published 5 collections of poetry, 3 in Maltese, 2 in English, have appeared in various local and foreign literary magazines, journals or anthologies, have been translated into French, Italian, German, Greek and Spanish. Have won prizes and commendations in competitions, the National Book Council award for my first Maltese collection and was awarded the Medal for Service to the Republic in 2000.
I also translate from Maltese to English, and write reviews and articles. I am currently working on prose meta-fiction.
