When I was a child my parents were civilian employees of the Army and Air force, so I spent more than six years in Germany, France, and England as well as Northern and Southern California and the Central Valley, Florida, and Nebraska. After Capuchino High School (yes, it really does exist, named after the Capuchin monks rather than the coffee drink), I graduated summa cum laude from San Francisco State University and then got my M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology from UCLA. I did a post-doctoral year at System Development Corporation in Santa Monica, went to Chile in the Peace Corps when Eduardo Frei Montalva was President, and then joined the faculty at Sonoma State University in 1968, where I have served as Psychology Department Chair and as Director of the India Studies program. For a number of years I trained in Gestalt Therapy and am active in the Gestalt community. My wife of 30 years is the great love of my life and we have two adult daughters. I live on a redwood forest property that requires a lot of time and effort to keep up, so I have to be something of a woodsman and diversely - skilled handyman. I have published only two books, Being & Caring coauthored with my colleague Laurence J. Horowitz, and Tarot d'Amour: Find Love, Sex, and Romance in the Cards, coauthored with my wife Kooch N. Daniels. I have just moved into half-time retirement and will be teaching Fall semesters only for the next few years, and with a little luck will become more productive as a writer. I have a keen interest in other cultures and travelled widely in Asia, Latin America, and Europe, and had I not become a psychologist, I probably would have been an Anthropologist. Interests: psychology, social policy, scuba diving, swimming, kayaking, travel, woodland and streambank maintenance & erosion control
