Winner of the 2003 Erma Bombeck Award, Mike Ball lives
and writes on the shores of Whitmore Lake, Michigan,
sharing a roof and the occasional pork chop with his wife,
one son, three cats, and a doberman.

Mike picked up a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana
University, where he learned that beer is an essential food
group. He went on to graduate school at the University of
Notre Dame, where he learned how to whine about a
winning football program.

After a few years trying to justify all that education by
working in a big corporation, he cut out to work on his
own as a commercial photographer and freelance writer.
He spent the next 28 years producing humor columns,
ads, radio scripts, brochures, and on one occasion an
obituary for a dog. His work has been published in
magazines and newspapers all over the country.

Along the way he became a scuba Dive Master, a high
school hockey coach, and a national champion pairs water
skier.

Rubber Stamp is his first novel, and he has two more
novels and a collectin of humorous essays currently in the
works. He writes a weekly humor column for a local
newspaper, and teaches creative writing courses for
middle school and high school kids, adults, and to the
young, troubled and talented inmates of a boy's training
school.

Interests: Humor, satire, medieval Irish history, scuba diving, show water skiing. Winner of the 2003 Erma Bombeck Writing Award.
