Whitney Stewart began writing middle-grade biographies after interviewing the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, the subject of two of her books. For her next biographies, Stewart trekked with Sir Edmund Hillary in the Mt. Everest region of Nepal, and journeyed to Burma to interview Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. She has also published biographies of Chinese leaders Deng Xiaoping and Mao Zedong, and many nonfiction magazine articles.
For Stewart’s forthcoming picture book on the life of the Buddha, she collaborated with her friend, author-illustrator Sally Rippin. For her two middle-grade novels about a young guitarist in search of inspiration, she spent hours watching her son and husband play guitar. Whitney Stewart lives in New Orleans, Louisiana.
