Current Position

Production Consultant to R & R Consulting; 2006 to Present

Database in development for independent film production. This project is covered by an NDA.

Film Reviewer/Media Reporter, DreamWatch Magazine, Great Britain,
1995 to 1997

DreamWatch was a commercial monthly magazine devoted to the best of film and television science-fiction and fantasy. The magazine was distributed in Britain, Australia, Canada, Germany, and the United States. I was a leading writer and member of the American office until the office was closed prior to the magazine’s  purchase by a British publishing chain.

I wrote a wide range of film reviews of new releases, profile pieces, and conducted a variety of interviews.  In addition I developed a monthly news column on current productions and coordinated film coverage and PR contacts for both print and Web version of the magazine. While working for DreamWatch, I became an accredited Foreign Correspondent with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

Contributing Film Reviewer, The Columbus Dispatch, 1994 to 1995

Second-string film reviewer with the newspaper's main critic, Frank Gabrenya.

Film Reviewer/Media Reporter, The Columbus Guardian, 1993 to 1994

The Columbus Guardian was a weekly alternative newspaper that published from 1993 till 1995. I was recruited by the paper's original Arts Editor, Kay Mallett, who was familiar with the work I had done previously at the Columbus Museum of Art (see below). Though I was technically a free lance employee, I was the film and media editor for the paper as I handled the PR contacts, wrote virtually all of the reviews, coordinated the weekly assignment lists and conducted numerous interviews ranging from the experimental film maker Beth B. to such established Hollywood stars as Eva Marie Saint.  Unfortunately, a change in both publishers and Arts Editors persuaded me to move on. Late in 1995, I was asked to return to help the paper revamp its format. However, the chain which owned The Guardian decided instead to close the paper.

Related Experience
Adjunct Professor, Columbus College of Art and Design, Columbus, Ohio 1997 to 1998

Developed and taught the curriculum for a course on art theory and criticism (Liberal Arts 499). The specific goal of the course was to instruct students in the basic rudiments of critical writing. I was employed for two years as a substitute professor.

Arts Management Experience
Coordinator of Film and A/V Programs, Columbus Museum of Art, 1978 to 1992

As Curator of a weekly international film program devoted to the various artists and themes in the world cinema I developed programs including the New German Cinema, the French New Wave, and the Chinese Fifth Generation movement as well as various collaborative presentations with such organizations as the East Asian Studies Society at OSU (New Films From Taiwan), the National Black Programming Consortium (Prized Pieces Festival), and The Ohio State University Gallery (Before Rashomon). In conjunction with this program, I wrote and edited program notes and presented numerous public lectures and supervised  related PR releases.

As a member of the museum's Department of Education, I served as the educational co-curator on such exhibits as Beverly Pepper: Sculpture in Place and Awards in the Visual Arts 5.  For these exhibits, I wrote and edited gallery guides and press releases.  In addition, I did extensive photography for the museum slide library and directed several radio PSAs and one animated TV spot for the CMA. I also provided a wide variety of technical assistance to the museum's Development Department for the annual fund drive as well as technical support to the museum's PR Department. Both my position and the film program were terminated in 1992 as part of a massive budget cut by the museum.

Contributing Writer, Dialogue: An Art Journal, 1984 to 1990
