Her Indian heritage gave Oleta Toliver love and respect for the native American Indian world. A journalism graduate of Texas Tech University, she worked as columnist, feature writer and photographer. After graduate work in teaching, Toliver became Director of Publications at Brownfield High School and was later named head of the Spanish Department. She is owner/director of Amistad Productions, an advertising and public relations firm.
Researching the history of the American Indian, she gained a broad knowledge of pueblo customs, enhanced by living and traveling in the Santa Fe, N.M., area.
Her non-fiction book, An Artist at War, was published by the University of North Texas Press as a part of their War and the Southwest Series.
She and her husband, Coke, divide their time between living in Texas and New Mexico. They have a son and a daughter.
