For the past eleven years, Michele Torrey has explored the depths of her imagination while writing novels for adults, young adults, and middle-grade. Doyle and Fossey: Science Detectives (Dutton), a chapter book series for grades 3-5, stars Drake Doyle and Nell Fossey, the best scientist detective geniuses in the fifth grade. Michele’s historical adventures, such as To the Edge of the World and Voyage of Ice (Knopf), written for middle-grade and young adult audiences, deliver heart-pounding adventures and resourceful heros. Michele’s books have been selected by the Junior Library Guild and are published internationally. Among other awards, Michele has twice won the Pacific Northwest Literary Contest in her category (now known as the Zola Award), and was a category judge in 2003. She was recently nominated for the 2005 Thurber House Residency in Children’s Literature. Michele lives in South Bend with her husband, Carl Gann, a vocational rehabilitation counselor. They have three adult sons and a calico cat.
