Born in Rome, Valentina Acava Mmaka grew up in South Africa where she has spent most of her life and now she lives between Kenya and Italy.
Journalist, writer, poet, translator. She has been always committed in telling the African continent to the Western world, with an inside point of view, and introducing initiatives with as a joint between different cultures.
She is author of children's and young adult fiction telling the African continent: "Il mondo a colori della famiglia BwanaVal" (Kabiliana, 2003); Jabuni: il mistero della cittą sommersa (EMI; 2003); I nomi della pace.Amani (EMI 2003).
In 1996 and 1998 took place in South Africa and Kenya the play: "I... migrant ... woman" also represented in Italy and published as "Io...Donna...Immigrata..." (EMI, 2004).
She is author of the poetry collection "L'ottava nota" (Prospettiva, 2002)
She deals with intercultural themes and migrant literature and introduces in schools and libraries the knowledge of the African continent thorugh her books and also through workshops of African Toys.
She is founder of the Mmaka Educational Organization, a NGO which promotes educational projects in Africa.
She lives between Africa and Italy.
