Third-person bios sound so much less egotistical than first-person bios. So play along here and we'll pretend somebody else wrote this about me...

Jim has a 30-year background in writing and television production. He began his career as a news producer and writer in 1972 at the CBS affiliate in Miami. In 1979, he was selected as one of three writer/producers to launch the syndicated television series PM Magazine in South Florida. At the same time, he also began his own production company, Venture Productions (now Venture Media), providing creative development, writing, and production services for television documentaries, government agencies, cable networks, and interactive multimedia projects.

Jim’s non-fiction writing is focused in the fields of history, travel, art, the military, the entertainment industry, pop culture, technical training, and government bid writing. He has completed projects and documentaries for the National Park Service, Discovery Networks, Travel Channel, KnowledgeTV, the Armed Forces Network, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. State Department, Primedia, and Goldhil Media. His print articles have appeared in industry trade journals like Government Video Magazine, business publications like South Florida Business Journal, and enthusiast magazines such as Modern Drummer and Amazing Figure Modeler.

Over the years, Jim has researched and written on a wide range of topics, including biographies of Hernando DeSoto, Abraham Lincoln, and Ringo Starr, the history of the Blue Angels, the diverse ecosystem of the Everglades, the historical dependence of man on the horse, and military technical programs that train servicemembers how to survive a helicopter crash, search a vehicle for a bomb, and refuel torpedoes.

Jim recently completed his first historical novel, "Sand of the Arena," an action-adventure epic set during the Roman Empire. The manuscript was an award winner in the national 2002 Pike’s Peak Writing Contest and the 2002 New Century Writer’s Contest. He is also a contributing writer for Moonstone Books, recently completing a three-part graphic novel based on O Henry’s character, The Cisco Kid.

Among his numerous writing and production awards are two Emmys, sixteen Tellys, and twenty Addys. He was named to the 2001 Top 100 Multimedia Producers list by AV/Multimedia Producer Magazine and is also listed in "Who’s Who in Communication." In the rare periods where he is not writing or producing, Jim is a photographer, artist, award-winning modelmaker, and musician (drums, guitar, and keyboards).
