Originally from New York, Ms. Symes has traveled in Western Europe, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt, Russia, the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and North America writing and photographing nature, landscapes, and people for publications and commercial clients. Dance Europe, Ballet Tanz of Germany, Terpsichore of Denmark, Critical Dance/Ballet Dance Magazine, Ballet Magazine of England, X-RAY International Dive Magazine, Today’s Dallas Woman Magazine supplement to the Dallas Morning News in Texas and Catalyst Magazine in Salt Lake City, Utah, have published her stories and photographs. Recent articles cover topics in business, travel, health, economics, women's issues, education, dance, culture and the arts. She has interviewed and written about U.S. senators and state politicians such as Kay Bailey Hutchison and Harryette Ehrhardt, artists and entrepreneurs, private investigators and medical specialists, and has gone on assignment to the jungles, mountains and islands of Malaysia to cover dive resorts, Mount Kota Kinabalu and the boat people of Mabul. She interviewed sub sea pioneer, Dr Phil Nuytten and the world champion in free diving, Tanya Streeter. In Copenhagen, Ms. Symes interviewed the director of the Royal Danish Ballet School, Anne Marie Vessel Schluter, photographed and wrote feature stories about Royal Danish porcelain and glass and interviewed the former speaker of the Danish parliament, Erling Olsen, about the EU and the Euro. She served as assistant on location and American English translation specialist to the editor-in-chief of the premier Scandinavian diving magazine, DYK, and now serves as Managing Editor and Creative Director for X RAY International Dive Magazine, Ocean Arts, Aquascope Underwater Photography and Blue Horizons Adventure Club. In addition to her work in media, Ms. Symes served as professor of dance on the faculties of several universities including Kent State University, University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Utah. Ms. Symes holds a master in fine arts in modern dance and bachelors of fine arts degree in ballet from the University of Utah, as well as an associate’s degree in visual communications from Brookhaven College in Texas.
