Biographical Sketch

Attorney, writer, roofer, production worker, ceramic tile installer, entrepreneur, small business owner, garbage man, college football player. These are just some of the vocational hats I’ve worn during a life that’s sometimes seemed like a great adventure and, at other times, seemed like a carnival road show heading nowhere in particular.

Born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, I turned down the offer of a full football scholarship at The Citadel to accept one from East Tennessee State University. At the tender age of eighteen, I packed my car and headed to the wilds of that beautiful state to begin four years of a football career that offered the opportunity to register for and take college courses.

Four seasons later, and hardly on a track to graduate, I quit school, returned to Charleston, got married and took a job with Exxon Chemical Corporation. A year and a half of line production work convinced me that college course work wasn’t so demanding, after all. With my wife and two toddlers, I returned to E.T.S.U. and completed work on my accounting degree.

From there, we moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I’d been accepted to Law School. Three years later, I completed that course of study, and we moved to Augusta, Georgia, where I developed a relatively successful trial practice over the next several years.

That marriage fell apart (after the birth of a third son), and I returned to Charleston, South Carolina, where I’d taken a job with a client – one of the region’s largest garbage haulers, with companies in Atlanta, Charleston, and Jacksonville.

After the sale of that business, I started a temporary employment company, but soon discovered how competitive an industry can be. I’ve subsequently dabbled in construction trades; I currently install ceramic tile in top end residential developments.

Through it all, my goal’s remained constant: To be of service to others and to conduct my affairs with integrity.
