Home page:

I am a writer and book editor in the San Francisco Bay Area. Before going freelance
as The Threepenny Editor in 2003 (, I served as an
assistant editor for the Carnegie Mellon University Press in Pittsburgh, and graduated
Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Creative Writing, also from CMU. In the summer of
2001 I attended Trinity College in Dublin on scholarship through the University of
Iowa’s Writers’ Workshop. Now, besides editing manuscripts, I’ve been a volunteer
workshop facilitator and student mentor, and my freelance essays and book reviews
have appeared in The Oregonian,, Fodor's, The Crab Orchard Review,
genre publications, and anthologies. I’m also working on a second bachelor’s degree,
in Arabic.

I grew up in Pittsburgh’s Syrian Orthodox community, and for the past ten years I
have been studying and writing about with the Middle East out of a strong connection
to my background. I have lived all over the United States (four states in four years!)
but today I live in Oakland with my wife, a Coast Guard clinician whose background
helped immensely with the field hospital material that is the backbone of ROOM 100.

Interests: Middle East, multicultural, magical realism, political fiction, literary fiction, suspense
