Genevieve Montcombroux

Inwood, Manitoba, Canada

I grew up and studied in Paris, France. Following my study of languages at Oxford University, England, I worked as an editor of scientific publications in the language department, for Pergamon Press. While I like my job, I also wanted to remain with ballet and trained to be a teacher of ballet. All the while I kept writing stories.

It was at Oxford that I met my husband, Michael. Our courtship was like something out of a romance novel. He proposed at the end of the first week and we were married three weeks later - and remain happily together after many years. We had two children. Michael is an artist.

We came to North America and lived in many places including Canada's Arctic. In the North, I realized one of my childhood dreams, that of owning Inuit sled dogs. This passion, was born when I was ten-year old, after I found Paul-Émile Victor's book 'Boréal' about the life of an Inuit family and their dogs in Greenland. The way Paul-Émile wrote about the sled dogs won my heart. This passion, along with some twenty Inuit sled dogs - sometimes more, especially when there are pups - has stayed with me. We live on 640-acre semi-wilderness property with our dogs. Winter is our favorite time. We sled, snowshoe, skijor (being pulled on skis by one or two dogs) or cyclejor (same as skijoring but with a bicycle) everyday. Sometimes, visitors come and try their hand at driving a sled - or just get a ride.

For a number of years, I shared my time between running a school of dance and various forms of writing for T.V., radio and the press while keeping four dogs in the city. I finally handed my school over to one of my talented former students who became a teacher, and now devote myself to writing and raising Canadian Inuit sled Dogs.

An incurable romantic, writing romances is what I like to do best, but I also write romantic novels which are more dramatic. Being involved as I am with Inuit Sled Dogs, I write non-fiction articles and I am the author of The Canadian Inuit Dog: Canada's Heritage. I also have a number of published children's books and romances in the French language.

Interests: Besides writing I love the outdoors. I raise Canadian Inuit Sled Dogs so dog sledding follows. A former dancer, then ballet teacher, dance is a strong interest. With dance goes music, mostly classical but open to jazz, blues, country, anything that please
