I have been a professional writer/editor/events promoter since 1980 and the creator of the Write by Color technique. I produced local cable television shows in Marblehead, Massachusetts and later worked for television shows in Washington, D.C. for WETA-TV and the nationally-acclaimed syndicated "America's Black Forum with Julian Bond".

In Newport, Rhode Island, I became actively involved in the writing community as the founder and executive director of Community Writers Association (1994-2000), a national nonprofit organization which hosted the Newport Writers Conference and other programs. As the editor at Hall Communications,I wrote and edited numerous articles for Hall's two monthly travel publications, Ocean State Traveler and Mystic Traveler, while supervising six interns and approximately 40 freelance writers.

As a copywriter, I have written everything from brochures and manuals to display ads and radio commercials. Clients have included tourism bureaus, bed and breakfasts, theaters, film commissions, film festivals, opera companies, museums, office supply companies and restaurant chains. Additionally, I wrote advertorials and brochures for the Block Island Chamber of Commerce, the Newport County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Greater Providence Convention & Visitors Bureau.

I formed Austen Sharp, my book publishing and events promotion company, in 1996 and wrote "Haunted Newport", a book about local ghost sightings and legends. Based on the book's success, I launched "Haunted Newport", a month-long celebration of Halloween which features nearly 200 events each October.

I served as the Program Director for the Newport Writers Conference, New England Screenwriters Conference, ScriptBiz screenwriting seminar, KidsEye International Film Festival and KidsEye filmmaking camp. In 2002, I created Kid Filmmakers (a traveling filmmaking academy for children, ages 9-17), the Newport Metaphysical Faire and the Write By Color creative writing workshops.
