Email: jslaughter@ec.rr.com I am a physician who has always felt the need to express myself outside of the medical world. I started out writing poetry as an outlet for the frustration experienced during medical school and my training years in the hospital. Over the past couple of years while fulfilling the military commitment I accrued during medical school, I have begun to gravitate toward writing fiction. Throughout the course of my travels around the world with the military over the last few years I have accumulated a number of stories on which I am ready to begin working. I recently was "published" when a commentary I wrote for "Morning Edition" on National Public Radio was accepted . Since that time, I have been a frequent contributor to that program and NPR's "Talk of the Nation." I was first published during the period between my graduation with a B.A. in International Relations from St. Joseph's University and my entrance into medical school at Georgetown. I completed a technical book while working as a writer and editor for a Scientific Products Company in New Jersey. I am now ready to start telling my stories. I am planning on exploring everything from non-fictional accounts of experiences with the Marines, to fiction, and screenplays. My first step is to find a publisher for the anthology of stories from the air campaign in Operation Iraqi Freedom that I am currently compiling. I actually have started an online journal at www.acceptanceisland.com to record my experiences during the recent war. I plan on drawing from this to create my contribution to the anthology. Interests: I have been writing poetry for a number of years, but have begun to gravitate towards writing fiction recently. My current goals are to complete the anthology of war stories from Operation Iraqi Freedom and the novel I am currently working on before movin
